Designing in Context: Preservation in Practice explores the process required to preserve, interpret, and create access to a cultural archive of extraordinary scale.

The program looks at the creative legacy of Johnson Publishing Company, including the visual worlds of Ebony and Jet magazines, and the work now underway to preserve, digitize, interpret, and create a new research environment for the archive in Washington.

Through a presentation, conversation, and audience Q&A, the evening looks at how archival material is conserved, interpreted, organized, and made accessible, and what deeper engagement with historical material can offer designers and creative practitioners today.
