In Focus: A Film Photo Walk

Start with an introduction to shooting film at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, then head out on a guided photo walk through the neighborhood. The walk invites new and seasoned photographers to explore how DC’s people, spaces, objects, and visual culture create opportunities for connection.

A fixture on Capitol Hill since 1972, CHAW has built its work around the connection between art and community. It is also home to the last community darkroom in Washington, DC, offering ongoing access to black-and-white film development, printing, and photography classes.

Participants use the camera as a tool to notice, interpret, and engage with the city not just document it. The session offers a chance to experience film photography within a place that has helped keep the practice accessible and active in the city for decades.
